Exercise 1) Explore and Evaluate

 

Browse the Web to locate an organizational/topical Web site containing information on a topic of particular interest to you. Follow links from the home page to view at least three related pages at the site. Then answer the following questions; be prepared to discuss your answers in class.

 

a.    Who owns the site and what is its URL?

b.    Is the siteÕs domain name an effective marketing tool? If yes, why? If no, why not?

 

c.     Were the home page and related pages visually appealing? Why or why not.

 

d.    What do you think is the siteÕs overall message?

e.    Who is its targeted audience?

f.      How easy of difficult was it to navigate to related pages using home page links?

 

g.    Identify the type of information you found, explaining how it was presented- for example, as photos, videos, text, or sound.

 

h.    How long did it take for you to find useful information at the site?

i.      Does it benefit you to review existing Web sites when planning a new site? Why or why not.
