Portfolio websites
Online portfolios should have the following:
Home page:
1) White space between each thumbnail - add the white
space in the jpeg you create
Example: http://brittmansourimoaie.wixsite.com/portfolio
Example: https://www.beckylakedesign.com
Example: https://www.isabellapalomo.com
Example: https://aportafolio.com
2) The arrangement and relative size of your thumbnails
should create a pleasing well balanced designed page that creates eye flow - no singular thumbnail should
dominate the page
3) Home page links need to include: (for this class)
- Portfolio – linked to
homepage
- About – statement,
inspirational quote, self-portrait,
and link to resume
- Contact – fillable form https://www.beckylakedesign.com/contact
https://aportafolio.com/contact/
4) About page. Examples: https://www.isabellapalomo.com/about-1
https://aportafolio.com/about/
https://www.beckylakedesign.com/about
- Professional well lit and composed photo of yourself
- 2-3 paragraphs about what
you have accomplished and what inspires you and personal interests
- Inspiration quote
relevant to what you state inspires you
4) Project pages:
-
Sizing: Each piece needs to be large enough to be easily scene so your design is
appreciated. Example: Click on any project on these pages to see proper
professional sizing of projects:
https://www.beckylakedesign.com
https://www.isabellapalomo.com
-
Multiple page projects: of a brochure or website etc. should be smaller – There is no need to show
every page.
Example: https://www.beckylakedesign.com/steam-magzine
Example: https://www.isabellapalomo.com/cxi-veteran-affair
3. Project titles:
Use typography that does
not over shadow your design pieces - that is subtle and sophisticated and not
horsey
- Client name - no mention
of being a school project
- What it is e.g. poster,
calendar, brochure etc.
- What you did - e.g.
design and photography or design writing and illustration or producer videography
and editing or design and editing etc.
5. Project descriptions:
Use typography that does
not over shadow your design pieces - that is subtle and sophisticated and not
horsey
- Project purpose - Who is the
intended audience and what will the project accomplish.
- Usually 1 sentence can be
up to 3 sentences
- Creative rationale: Who
is the intended audience, what is the unique information or selling point
- (the concept behind the
design) And how the visuals, typography, color selections and layout make the
design solution effective.
